Recently I chose to follow the guidance from my ecclesiastical leader and do a 7-day social media fast. After a week off social media, here's what I learned:
- I had more focus. Focus on my work, my relationships, my faith, my creativity, and even small things like making dinner, reading, and gardening. It was like someone had adjusted my internal lense so I could see more clearly.
- I had more freedom. Rather than always having to check my phone, I felt like time slowed down and I could get more done. My schedule seemed more relaxed and that felt fantastic!
- I have more time for introspection I am an introvert most of the time, so this new time to myself was delicious! I was able to better listen to my inner voice, figure out what I needed, and be more at peace with myself. Maybe that came from not always looking at other people's images and posts.
Have you ever done a social media fast? If so, what did you learn?
