A piece of original art that features your precious son or daughter is the perfect way to remember how much you love them. How do you commission an artist to create a piece of customized, original art for you? You don't have to know a lot about art to get a piece created for you. I've outlined my process in creating a one-of-a-kind, customized watercolor commission.
Here’s how commissioning a piece of art with me typically looks like:
If you’re interested in a commissioning a piece of art set up a 15-minute discovery call with me. This quick chat will likely be via video chat or phone.
During the discovery session, we’ll talk about photos you’ve selected as possible reference photos for the watercolor and we will determine the key design parameters for your custom piece of art including ideal size (I have five sizes - 8x10, 9x12, 11x14, 12x16, and 18x24 and can do custom sizes as well), subject, and colors. I will then direct you to my commission page to book your commissioned watercolor. You’ll want to select whether you want the painting framed at that point, too…although you can always add that later by talking to me.
Once you’ve booked your customized watercolor, you’ll send over the reference photos for me to review and select. You also may want to send me photos of where you’ll place your new piece, so I have another point of reference.
Using your candid photo that we selected together, I will create a sketch and recommend a rough layout of the composition for your review and approval.
Once the sketch is approved, I will create the painting for you. At this point, your payment is non-refundable.
Once the painting is close to finished, I will send you a photo of the painting via email or text for your approval.
The balance remaining is due at this point, if you’ve paid a half payment. If you desire the painting to be framed, we will discuss the framing options and pricing and the full payment for the painting plus the frame will be due at this point.
Your painting will be shipped or delivered to you depending on your location.
If at any time you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
